Kaiserstuhl day trip July 2017

My first of many trips to the Kaiserstuhl. All the other trips you can find here, where I focus on nature photography.

The Kaiserestuhl (Emperor’s Chair) is a low mountain range situated west of Freiburg im Breisgau in the middle of the Upper Rhine Plain between Germany and France.

The Kaiserstuhl is of volcanic origin however nowadays is covered by a thick layer of Loess form the last ice age providing great breeding grounds for the European bee-eater (Bienenfresser).

There is a multitude of wildlife to discover ranging from rare butterflies or the praying mantis all the way to the beautiful western green lizard (Smaragdeidechse) and lots more. Besides its many natural reserves and its outstanding biodiversity, the Kaiserstuhl is also famous for its succulent wines. So when you have the chance: hike, discover, drink and savour.

More Kaiserstuhl?! Or more hiking?!

Enjoy the hike!
