Schwarzwald Westweg 2016

A gentle hike from north to south through the Black Forest, from Pforzheim (DE) to Basel (CH) on the Westweg. 300 km of ups and downs and vistas to France in the west and the Swiss Alps to the south. The tallest peak of the Black Forest, the Feldberg (1493m/4898ft), is charming hiking territory, and labels the mountain range as the highest amongst its kind.
Shaped by a rift called the “Oberrheinische Tiefebene” (Upper Rhine Plain) the Black Forest and the Westweg respectively have a lot to offer, culturally, geographically and ecologically. For me it was nice weather and easy hiking, meaning a grand old time.

One rather interesting nugget of experience: while I was sleeping on my comfortable sleeping mat in my warm sleeping bag, a vagabond showed up in the little shelter as well. He however used some fern as a mat and old clothes as blanket. Really puts things into perspecive.

More Black Forest?! Or across the Rhine to France and the Vosges?!

Enjoy the hike!
